I am very proud to be taking part in the Jean Harlow Blogathon, which is taking place this week to celebrate what would have been her 100th birthday.
The Blogathon consists of many bloggers and fans coming together to celebrate Jean and full details can be found here:
Jean was Gable's co-star on many occasions and when she passed away Gable was too upset to even give a statement to the press. It has been said that his wife, Carole Lombard, told Clark that if she died, he was to make sure her funeral didn't turn into the 'spectacle' that she felt Jean's was. When Carole did pass several years later, her husband made sure that it was the quiet, respectful funeral she had wanted.
Over the years there have been various books written about Jean Harlow. Some good, some bad. In my opinion the best so far has been David Stenn's 'Bombshell' which I was able to purchase while on holiday in Santa Monica in 1995. It was my last day and I wasn't sure whether to buy the book or not, but I am so glad I did. Stenn's work is amazing and although 'Bombshell' is now very hard to find, several websites are offering it for sale, including Amazon:
Later this month a new book will be published entitled 'Harlow In Hollywood'. The book, written by Darrell Rooney and Mark Vieira is published by Angel City Press and promises to be not only a good read but stunning to look at too.
The authors will be promoting their work in various places over the coming weeks and months, including an event at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, this weekend. Details are as follows:
